What happens to an VTV when it goes scratch?

Hi -

     We have a VSM5e and 6 RTDs in an SL3000 on the back end (we're not tapeless).  We're running CA-1 and ELS 7.1.  In the "old days" (physical tape), if I got a paniced call from a user that a tape went scratch, I could go into CA-1 and - assuming the tape hadn't been re-used yet - unexpire it.  Will that still work with VTVs, or have I extended the expiration of a tape that no longer has the actual data on it?
