General Portal Question

Hi,

We are currently on 9.0, 8.98.3.3 and would like to use the portal functionality for HR portlets but we don't have a portal server. 

About a year ago I believe it was an Oracle rep told me that 9.1.x will have some limited portal capabilities without the need of a portal server.


I see in the documentation that there are some fully functional web self-service pages for HR related activities and self service.  Is this what the rep would have been referring to?

I'm not familiar with portals and portal servers but this seems the same?  What is the difference between the portals and having the users access the pages from the thin client?
