Can New Period Dates be added to a Payroll in Oracle EBS??????

Just wondering if anyone can help -

We have had Oracle HR implemented and have had 2 payroll runs since go-live.  An employee has returned from long term sick - the absence start date recorded was Nov 2009, however when Oracle HR was implemented the first payroll period for the 1 payroll we have is Jan 2010.  This is causing an error when attempting to add an end date to the absence on the employee record:

APP-PAY-06614: No time periods exist for this payroll currently

Is it possible to create new historic periods for the payroll?

If no, can anyone suggest a solution?
