How do I move the drive shelves to a new set of controller heads?

I'd like to replace the controller heads from my 7310 with heads from a newer system that we just taken offline while keeping my storage shelves, their data and configuration. Can this be done without data loss?


What's the procedure?

Some additional details:

  • The newer heads will need to be reconfigured for ID, networks, protocols and so forth.
  • The newer heads have SSD as well as HD local media
  • The drive shelves from the newer heads have several drive types (HDD, SDD), the older shelves only contain HDD
  • Firmware versions may not match between controllers and drive shelves or drives
  • Using iSCSI as protocol
