Procurement Contracts - Controlling Notifications?

Is there a good detailed document that explains how the notifications work for Contract Repository specifically?  I see concurrent processes and workflows but its not clear how to use them.  We've scheduled the concurrent processes to run every morning, but our test contract has notifications going every hour.   And we'd like to change up the text a little too if possible.  So I need a good understanding of these events and the Implementation and Admin Guide has lists but not much detail that I can see.  Any suggestions?
