valign grid layout vertical-align

When we use grid layout and have a text area the entire horizontal row places the alignment as middle.  This causes check boxes and non text area fields to display below their labels awkwardly.  I can change the valign property in chrome tools to use top and then it looks correct.  However im not sure where (css, js, swt, ect..) that i can make this change permanent.  See screen shots.  Thanks for the help
