Capturing cost of Prototypes and Samples for Customs declaration
We currently do not record BOM's and routes for samples and prototypes in E1 as these are usually one off's, or change multiple times before commercialization.
Our logistics team is requesting we begin capturing cost of labor and materials for samples and prototypes shipping outside of the country to enable a cost be assigned for customs declaration purposes.
We were thinking of creating a BOM and Route and not rolling the cost, but using Costed Route inquiry to identify the cost. This does not however systematically transfer that cost onto reports needed for customs.
We normally issue the material out to an account when the samples/prototypes are manufactured, rather than creating work orders, as the manufacturing is normally done in a prototype area that is not scheduled. The raw material may or may not be planned via MRP, depending on its use in other products.
