Selecting distinct values from an XML file

We are upgrading from EBS 11i to R12 and I am trying to customize the AP and PO Accrual Reconciliation Report

We have a requirement to print the grand total of AP_BALANCE at the end of the report.

The seeded report generates the XML in the following (simpllified) format, i.e. attribute PO_DISTRIBUTION is repeated. However I have verified that the AP_BALANCE is always the same for each PO_DISTRIBUTION.

In the eaxmple below the Report total needs to be 230+231=461.

A simple <?sum (AP_BALANCE)?> in the rtf template is not working as it is additing 230 twice, i.e. 230+230+231=691.
