How to remove employee salary line when the employee is on Short Term Disability (STD) pay

A salaried employee was put on a short term disability pay couple of weeks ago. The salary line was removed in order not to overpay him. When a quick pay was run, it once again picked up his regular salary as well as the STD pay. How can I remove his regular salary so he can get only the STD pay.
