Any way to control cascade list display?

By default in Agile, cascading list selections display every node in the cascade (along with a description in parentheses), separated by pipes (|). For example:

Standards (Non-compliance with process/ product standards) |Industry/ Product Stds (Non-compliance with industry (UL, ASME, IPC, etc.) standards)

When editting, the selection just shows as the 'leaf item' of the list. For this example:

Industry/ Product Stds

Is there any way to control this? The display is lengthy (expecially for lists with multi-select or with many cascade levels) and does not provide value.  We use cascading lists (and Descriptions) to guide users to selections, but would rather not carry either through as displayed text.
