Basic DR Planning Questions

Hello,

We have setup a new stand alone 11g instance on an OEL 6.4 server.  It has a physical standby partner with an active data guard setup running.  We are taking a variety of rman backups depending on the day of the week and sending the rman files offsite.

My basic questions are

  1. Is this setup just for data recovery and physical file / media recovery?
  2. If the primary server dies, how do I get the standby data guard instance to take over as the primary?

I need to know if I need to setup other types of backups and add more to my disaster recovery procedures.
