User getting server error when real issue is an invalid asset number in field. P4112-Inventory issue

User attempting to do inventory issue.  Entered information and before she could click ok, the sever (server) error popped up.  After an hour or so of researching found she had been given an invalid equipment number.  Why didn't that field highlight as in error instead of giving the "sever" error?
