Hi,

In 1 of our Solaris 10 servers, the time stamp of the messages files are as follows:

# ls -ls /var/adm/messages*

   0 -rw-r--r--   1 root     root           0 May 14 03:10 /var/adm/messages

   2 -rw-r--r--   1 root     root         178 May  7 16:44 /var/adm/messages.0   <--- **

   2 -rw-r--r--   1 root     root         880 May  6 16:44 /var/adm/messages.1   <--- **

   2 -rw-r--r--   1 root     root         974 Apr 29 16:44 /var/adm/messages.2

   2 -rw-r--r--   1 root     root         178 Apr 22 16:44 /var/adm/messages.3

Noticed the messages files are 7 day a part except the above (**) files, only 1 day a part, why is that so?

Where is the rotation period of the messages files being defined?

Thanks in advance.

Howdy, Stranger!
