Copying versions from Production

All,

We have a scenario where users are creating web-based versions in Production and the lower environments are not getting updated until we're notified (IT).  Upon notification, we typically create the versions in DV, do an advanced get from PD and then promote up - is there a way to generate/create the versions from an advanced get or copy from production?
