Shared DOMAIN_HOME directory

Hello,


LWS product documents and best practices docs (such as Enterprise Deployment Guides) used to suggest a shared domain folder for all managed servers in a domain as a recommended, or at least possible, choice.
Recently, High Availability Guide for WebLogic Server 12c recommends using a local directory for each managed server.


Is there any major real drawback from adopting a shared domain folder? Or it is still a possible choice?



 
(Btw, we are on WLS 12.1.2, Exalogic-nonvirtual and we would like to adopt a shared domain folder in a common ZFS share, accessed by all compute nodes. We know we have to deal with the nodemanager directory (we will create a symbolic link to a local ZFS share).
