Changing an asset erased legacy depreciation reserve

I loaded assets for an acquisition we did.  One asset loaded to the incorrect category so the category was changed.  The asset was originally loaded as fully reserved however now, it is reversing the fully reserved amount and depreciating the asset according to the depreciation method.  When I try to change the YTD depreciation or Accumulated Depreciation numbers in the Books screen, I get a message that you cannot change them on an asset where the distributions have been changed from the way it was loaded.  ANY help as to how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
