12.1.3 - FSW and task status not syncing

We launched Field Service/FSW this past year. Our techs in the field "complete" the task, they do not close the task, as the back office reviews the task etc.prior to it being closed. The question is should the back office be manually adjusting the resource status to "closed" (task>more button>resource tab) to for full closure? Currently the back office is just adjusting the task status to CLOSED, but it does not sync to the resources status from completed.
Not sure if we are missing a syncing process or if we are missing a step in the process etc.
