ORA_VKTM process using high CPU resource.

Recently we installed Oracle 12c in Redhat 6.4 and found that oracle background process "ora_vktm_xxx"  using high CPU resource than the OS process. What is this process is doing and is it important to Oracle database? Can we shut it down and what is the impact if we do ?
