DD Change for Application display

Hi All,

JD Edwards App Release 9.0 / Tools Release 9.1

We recently encountered an issue where the sales order display for a sales order that has >999 lines. The data tables (i.e. F4211 and F42199) show the proper line number, however the application (P4210) only shows the line id's as 999.999. I understand that it is because the field length is set to 6 (with 3 decimal places). My question is what is the impact of changing it to 7 (with 3 decimal places)? I am fearful that in a change that easy, I am missing something else HUGE. Also is the DD shared between all environments or can I
