How do I bypass customer validation when executing Service Request API?

We have an interface for updating Service Requests via executing the API CS_ServiceRequest_PUB.Update_ServiceRequest. The issue is trying to interface an Update (something other than customer value)  for a Service Request that is attached to an item that has been returned from the customer site (which means the customer value for the item is now not the same as what is on the SR).

The standard called API CS_ServiceRequest_UTIL.Validate_Current_Serial (as part of CS_ServiceRequest_PUB.Update_ServiceRequest) validates the Serial Number for the instance, and uses what is passed from the l_Service_Request_Rec
