What is the difference between a response file and a template?

I'm trying to install Oracle Database 12c on top of Oracle Grid 12c on Oracle Linux 6.5 x64 without a GUI (so no X server). Oracle Grid and Oracle Database software (software only!) has been successfully installed using response files. Now I just have to create a database. I'd like to create one from scratch, configure it (as much as possible) at creation time, and then dump my data into it (from a previous installation).

While doing research on the best way to install Oracle Database, I have learned that I need to use DBCA, and that there are three ways to do it:
