Schedule changes and MRP supply/demand

I understand that the MRP functionality is determining material requirements based on back scheduling from requested due dates however, we have a situation where jobs will be regularly moved up as capacity allows and no messages/updates to supply/demand are getting generated.  Hence we are experiencing reschedules and material shortages to the schedule.  How are others identifying these disconnects in the supply/demand process?
