How does security in JDE XE 8.12 differ from JDE 9.0

We are migrating to 9.0 from XE and trying to figure out security.  Currently we see in XE a user has a menu and lots of tasks that they can access but when we look at the F00950 table they only have a few objects listed.  How are they able to access -what kind of setting do we have set up to allow this and how does this differ in 9.0.  We find in 9.0 that we need to give the user the object access with Type 3 security in order for them to view on menu (otherwise it is
