Chaning AutoAccounting rules: what is the impact on historical data if any

What is the impact on data when autoaccounting rules are changed?  It seems fairly easy to update the rules.  Seems there is no impact on historical data as the accounting got created, the only change would be going forward.  Have new accounting created with the new auto accounting rules.  Is this assumption correct?
