Ad hoc analysis not available in Smart View Panel after connect

In late 2013, Nelson Santos started a discussion (Ad hoc analysis not available in Smart View Panel after connect) that was never answered and is now archived. Earlier this year, my shop experienced the exact same issue he reported with SmartView. We have EPM 11.1.2.2 on Red Hat Linux and IBM WebSphere 7 as the J2EE server instead of WebLogic. We use Microsoft Active Directory as our external directory in Foundation Services. It took Oracle Support over two months to figure out what the problem was, so I am documenting the solution here for others who might experience it. The problem was with Analytic Provider Services instead of Smart View. Our WebSphere engineer used "configtool-manual.sh" and "runWASDeployment.sh" to
