By what application MERL (Item revision) field in F4211 is getting updated? I assume when i place an

Please help me in understanding how F4211 field MERL is getting updated. I have tried by entering Sales order and expected result was to get this field populated from F4102 MERL field based on Item and branch relationship enter on P4210.
