Field size limitation with IBAN.. any workaround

We are in E1 9.1. WE are not able to use the IBAN field on the Bank Account by Address screen P0030A/W0030AD. The field size is limited to 34 characters that do not fit our requirements for adding international bank accounts. Are there any workarounds like another field, etc.?
