Has anyone customized workflow to store who booked the order?

We would like to store who booked a sales order as Oracle currently does not.  An article on Metalink states you need to customize order header workflow to do so.  If anyone has done so, would they share how they went about doing it.  If possible, we would like the person who booked the order to be visible on the sales order workflow screen (Tools menu, Workflow status).   This way, users could see for themselves who booked the order instead of asking IT.
