How to resolve a database file in recover status mode

We are using Oracle 11.2.0.1 on Windows 2008 r2 server and the database is NOT in archive log mode.

We have the users tablespace that has two data files in it. 

One of the datafiles is in recover status and I have tried about everything I know of to recover the file and cannot recover it.  I believe we created this db from a cold backup of another db months ago and the extra users ts datafile did not get copied so it was missing.  we have now renamed the missing file to the correct file name in the correct location but its so old that I can't get the file to come online and out of recover mode.
