Exadata with different GI and RDBMS versions - supported?

We are planning an Upgrade of two 1/8 Exadata racks, which are currently running 11R2 Databases. The goal is to reach a stand which is suitable for Oracle DB 12c without actually installing any 12c Database Software at this Point. So this is a Deviation from Standard procedure, since everything in Exadata up to and including the GI should be upgraded. After this, GI and installed RDBMS will run databases in the same Version 11.2.0.3 for a while, until the DB Team takes over and continue the upgrade in the DB field. There is no way to avoid this two-step
