How can I delete invalid journals in HFM?

In my development environment,  I have found some posted journals that needed to be  unposted and deleted. I am unable to delete the journals. I receive error messages stating that “the entities are invalid” or” the journal has no line item.”  I have attempted to delete them by using the "Delete Invalid Records" in Database Management but this did not work. How can I delete these unwanted journals?
