How to Cancel Partial shipped drop ship line

We have sales order line which is a dropship for quantity 10.  Out of this quantity 8 is received on PO and so logically shipped on Sales order and line got split into 1.2 for quantity 2.

Now, customer want to cancel this partial line.  What is the best method to do this.

If we cancel the SO line then the PO line quantity is updated to 8 but the shipment on PO is getting cancelled.  Due to this when we open the PO and click on shipments button then system is giving error.

Also, if customer returned the quantity 4 out of quantity 8 then we are unable to do RTV portion because the shipment is cancelled.
