Lot tracking without lot control

I had a quick question - have you come across a business requirement to capture lot information without enabling lot control.  Typically lot control adds an additional degree of processing effort that may slow down operations.  Have you suggested any of these options or maybe more -

1.  Use DFFs and scan in the lot details

2.  Use APIs to store lot information - however, without lot control, Oracle will not function

3.  Enable lot control but do not allocate by lot - new Oracle feature.
