Is there a way to disable smart view features?

We have an very large block storage outline and users  have been "hanging up" the database - they don't release when we process our load and calc (they go into a terminating state) and I have to manually kill the application in task manager. This happened occasionally with the old Add-in, but when we moved to Smart View the features that issue MDX - Smart Slice and Query Designer - have made this a daily issue. I haven't seen anything in the documentation but I had to ask (user community doesn't believe me), can you disable these features?
