R12.2: OTL / Absence Integration

Hi, I'm at a client upgrading to 12.2 and looking to use Absence Management - and integrate with OTL.  However they are a major project organization and must have projects on the time card.  My understanding is that the absence integration only work with pure payroll time cards.  Is that the case?

If so, are there any recognized workarounds or is it customization?
