If the reversal period is populated on a journal, does it override the auto reversal setup informati

We have a few categories that are set to auto reverse upon period open.  We have, after recent upgrade, found that the system did generate the reversals, but into period that we **think** was populated in error by the user rather than the period that the auto reversal should automatically create it to (i.e. next non adjusting period).

In R12 though for whatever reason Oracle has prevented changing the period on reversal journals.

Can someone please confirm if the journal field for reversal period would override the auto reversal setups?
