Pick date calculation from leadtime

Hi,

how lead time in item master setup / lead time in item/supplier setup works for sales order pick date calculation. which date they take for reference for adding lead time. Can you suggest any document on this

Also, there are two preferences Order preparation date and delivery days as i know they back calculate promise ship date and Promise delivery date based on Requested date.

I am not clear, On how above two works hand in hand in order to give correct schedule pick date?
