Fixed Assets: Creating NO Fixed Asset records while creating Equipment Master Records

Dear All, my understanding about fixed asset and equipment modules is that if a fixed asset is created (say through Z processing), we have an option whether to create an equipment master record or not immediately (equipment master record can be created later on as well). However, when an equipment is created, a fixed asset record gets created automatically.

We are implementing FA in Phase 1 and Equipment in Phase 2. Now, when equipment management will be implemented in Phase 2, is it possible to create equipment record with no corresponding FA record. Also, if  FA record has to be there – is it possible to configure it so that it has no GL impact?
