Alternate BOM Vs. MRP

In my understanding, MRP plan for M type (Mfg.) BOM, It does not plan for Alternate BOM. The alternate BOM is being used in case of similar item with small changes in BOM or in case of Rework.

Still i want to clarify the followings

- Why do we use Alternate BOM & Routings?

- What if clients want to produce alternate BOM items on regular basis?

- Can we make MRP to plan alternate BOM items?
