Journal Entry Approval workflow

We are using the Journal Entry approval for approval in GL.It works for employees very well. we now wanted contingent works to load the key in the JE's and but the workflow errors out. does anyone know if the approval workflow in GL is only meant for employees and not contingent labour and if it is applicable to contingent labour also, then what is the configuration for this and if there are any patches needed.
