Upgrade and migration strategies for VLDB

Source:   Oracle RDBMS 11.1.0.7

Target:  Oracle RDBMS 12.1.0.2

I am migrating all of our databases from Oracle RAC 11.1.0.7 to standalone servers Oracle 12.1.0.2.  One of the databases is about 7TB. 

The upgrade options will have to be out-of-place because 11.1 will not install on the new hardware.  I'm happy with that because I always like to create and brand new database because I feel it's cleaner, not all that old stuff in there. 

The last time I did this, though, our databases weren't as big.  So I created new databases and imported application by application until all was moved. 

I think these are the options for upgrade:
