steps for applying patch in EBS 12.2

HI ALL

when applying patch in EBS 12.2 using adop , do we need to follow this order?

1)prepare

2)apply

3)finalize

4)cutover

5)cleanup

is it necessary to run prepare phase before applying patch , i mean before applying each and every patch do we need to run the prepare phase and then we need to apply patch

or running prepare phase for one time and applying any number of patches?

please clarify my doubt
