At what point transfer is auto-received ?

HI All

I have two  questions on auto-receive.

I have a store set up to auto-receive.  .However I see transfers with status " In Transit" or  "In-progress picking".

I was wondering if anyone knows at what point transfer is actually received automatically by the system. Is it when it is dispatched?

Also what is significance of Store Auto Receive setting  : External Message vs Date Driven

in

Setup > Store Admin ?
