SAM QFS - damaged media

Hi I have tapes reporting as damaged media in the SAM-QFS management page under tape volumes. I'm not sure if SAMQFS duplicates the data elsewhere when it marks media as damaged? I have tried to take them out of the damaged state but they just go back. They are full tapes and this is happening to about 10% of my tapes and I'm not sure why.
