Copy Collection Element

Have a requirement to be able to copy the entered information from one defined element in a plan into a second defined element in the same plan. Is this possible?

There is a user defined element (Serial_Number_FG) which has sql validation tying a wip job to an item number to valid serial numbers to that item. This way there is a reduced list of possible serial number choices for the operator to delect.  All good. However we need  a way to later search the plan for a specific serial number. Because there is sql validation on the element (Serial_Number_FG) when you use that element (Serial_Number_FG) in the search you get a FRM-40212:Invalid value for field LOW_VALUE_DISPLAY  So the thought is to create a new element that simply gets filled in
