R12 upgrade question

We are on a decentralised environment where our Source is on 11.5.10.2 and Destination is on 12.1.3. If we upgrade our OLTP(Source) to 12.2, do we need to upgrade our R12 as well as it will be on a lower version. We want to keep it decentralised

Any thoughts?
