Tag Numbers on Receiving Items

Currently We are not using Tag number but we do have a report to print asset tags which is currently assent number.  Do we an option to assign a tag number upon receiving an item or while creating an invoice and get that tag number to be the asset number in Fixed Assets.  Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated.
