Can legal entity and OU be changed in Inventory org if set of books are the same - R11i

Can legal entity and OU be changed in Inventory org if set of books are the same in release 11i?   Transactions were done earlier but zero on hand and period is closed.   Test system allowed this change but wanted to know if any repercussions.
