what is the simplest way to access a directory on Oracle Linux 6.5 from a Win7 machine?

I have been trying to get Samba to work and it is giving me fits. We loaded JDE onto Linux and none of us are Linux admins.  Good choice right? (not my decision)

All I want to do is allow a couple users to access a directory and pull files out of it.

My smb.conf file is probably a big mess now.  I don't even know the minimum that is necessary in the smb.conf to allow public access.
