Update reporting on 1099 PDF form

I am using the phone number field on the 1099 PDF form to report additional information than phone number.  I have made my changes to the program and I can see the changes when running the paper form, but not when I run the PDF form.  Is this a mapping issue?  How can I update this?  I read documentation regarding mappings and XSD file, but I don't know where this is.  Thank you!!!
